too big!

"today we tried out my new sun hat
so i could go get the mail with my mom.
i think it's too big." -leah

watch me grow

A friend my mom works with suggested we take a picture of Leah every month by the same object so we can see how she grows in relation to that object. I thought it was a fun idea. So...we will pretend this picture of her at 5 weeks is really her at 4 weeks.

And I thought this picture I took of her was funny because she's going cross-eyed. hahaha

back to church

yesterday was my first day back at church after a month away. i have to say it was so nice to be back...even though my body ached for the rest of the day after sitting on hard chairs for 3 hours.

leah was so good! she was adored by everyone there...as is expected for such a cute little girl, right? she was wide awake for sacrament meeting, but slept through sunday school and relief society. i didn't know where the mother's lounge was so i changed her diaper in the kitchen (shhh, don't tell!), but i now know where it is for future emergencies. her dress is still big (the bloomers were pinned in about 4 inches), but she looked so cute in her little dress and bow.

a visit from megan

my friend megan came to visit us for a few days. she was such a big help since she has two little girls of her own and she helped me to get out into the real world for a few days even though i still can't lift things heavier than leah.

we made hair bows and burp cloths, got pictures taken of leah and just had a lot of fun! megan was able to take her first exciting trip to IKEA. leah was a good sport and mostly slept - she's not used to so much action!

one month old today!

Today leah turns one month old. So, i thought it fitting to purchase her at least one outfit that fits her...and then do a photo shoot.

leah the leprechaun...and more...

It was quite an exciting weekend for the Layton family...

I decided to dress Leah up in green in honor of St. Patrick's Day - then I realized that all of the green onesies we have for her were dirty, so I put her in some booties that won't really fit her for months, a green bib and a green bow. She was pretty cute if i say so myself. Plus, I had to do it since Ryan was running around pinching everything in sight that didn't have green - I had to save her.

Then, her cord finally fell off (I keep calling it a belly button, so we have to reassure her that she still has a belly button). So we were able to give her her first tub bath! She loved the warm water and probably had a lot of fun peeing on me after she was finished.

We also took her out on her very first outing - a hot Friday night date with Ryan and me to Safeway to go grocery shopping. She was wide awake the whole time and loved being in her Baby Bjorn. Ryan had to keep telling her to put the cookies back on the shelves.

This is what I like to refer to as Leah's "chemo cap." Aunt Kelli gave it to her and it reminds us of a chemo cap my mom has that looks a lot like it. She likes being twins with grandma.

the ink comes off, right?

i've been wanting to get leah's hand and footprints for, well, three weeks now (she's three weeks old today - can you believe it!?!) and i have yet to do it. she has already gained probably about 2 lbs. and is 3 inches longer than she was at birth, so i knew i needed to do it quickly. so, that was this morning's activity. she really didn't like me after printing her hands, but she was surprisingly cooperative with the feet.

and most of the ink came off, no worries. hahaha

ah, the joys...

so, i'm not sure why, but i LOVE putting bows in leah's hair. there are two problems with this: 1) she doesn't have much hair on top - it's all in back - and i'm not about to put a bow around a mullett and 2) her head is still too small for all of the bows we have! so i made a bow the other day. the band was still too big, but i safety pinned it smaller and here we have it!

and i love this picture of her and ryan - so cute. she was all fussy and congested yesterday, but was so content to just lie on her dad's shoulder...not a care in the world.

today is my due date...

I love this picture! It's such a great shot of her huge double chin. It's usually not that pronounced...this was just perfect timing. It's so funny because she's still so small (not even 7 lbs. yet) but she is getting so chubby.
Ryan and I were talking last night about how strange it would be if Leah hadn't been here for the past 2 1/2 weeks. We obviously remember what it was like just the two of us, but we can't imagine our lives without her! So...here's a picture from her due date - she is wearing her "leah layton" onesie courtesy of Britty Bergeson... Ryan has created a sport he likes to call "extreme swaddling." He's pretty sure it's going to be a new event during the annual X games...and he thinks he's pretty good at it...
...leah thinks otherwise. She ALWAYS gets out. Today she shimmied out of not only her blanket, but her nightgown too. She will fit into her clothes someday, I'm sure.
And here's a shocker - Ryan goes running! For years i've tried to get him to run with me to no avail. he ran a 5k with me ONCE and has refused to run with me ever since. He thinks it's ridiculous to run when you're not chasing something like a ball. But, he has been running twice since we've been here. That may not seem like a lot, but it's quite the achievement for the Layton family. Can't miss him in that shirt, can you?

let's give it a shot...

After looking at a few different options, I think I want to change from my website to a blog so I don't have to keep erasing things, but can keep a history of them. We'll see how it works.

Here are some pictures of Leah this morning...she is wearing her first real outfit (not a onesie!). It's a newborn size and still doesn't quite fit, but I thought I'd give it a shot before she outgrows it by tomorrow. I've heard that's how it goes...
I love when she's wide awake!!
