april 3, 2009...a day that will go down in infamy

{well, at least in the layton household...}

my dear, sweet friend, dyan, watches leah once a week while i teach piano. on wednesday i got an email from her saying that she was thinking about leah a lot after she left on tuesday...and thought maybe it might help her walk if we tied a ribbon to her wrist so she couldn't let go, but we could slacken the ribbon, if needed. BRILLIANT {and an answer to a desperate prayer on monday night}. so i tried it that day and it WORKED! (see first part of video below).

then the next day...well, you'll see for yourself:

yup, that little turkey took 26 steps as her "first step"! today she was even standing up on her own and walking from there.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Leah! We are so proud of you and all your hard work.

yes, i cried.
and smiled.
and cheered.

I have watched this video over and over and can't stop laughing and crying. I love love love leah's little giggle. And oh my yes . . . what a turkey. I'm pretty sure she decided she did NOT want to face grandshmoj at the airport and not be walking. You have worked so hard for so long and this is a wonderful payday. She will be running races very soon. Watch out!

I almost just cried, too! That is so awesome! I think everyone who reads your blog should send Dyan a box of chocolates. What do you think? :) Go Leah! (And a serious pat on the back for you and Ryan for doing your best to be patient through these trying times. It was worth it.)
