ktg: 5 months

What a month! Kate is officially on the go - a roly, poly mover. And roll she does - front to back, back to front, right to left, left to right. All. The. Time. She spins in circles and scoots ever so slightly and rolls, rolls, rolls. Although she's a serious roller, she has a love hate relationship with being on her tummy. It changes by the second.

This month Kate also mastered the toy grasp. Left, right, both at once, the hand off, it doesn't matter. She's got it covered. Her favorite toys seem to be the plastic wipes container, some plastic keys, any blanket, my hair and her left thumb.

Kate graduated from the bassinet and the pack and play this month and is now an official resident of Leah's Room. As the older sister, Leah has retained ownership and I don't really see her giving it up any time soon. I don't blame her.

We bought Kate's crib in August, it arrived in September, and she slept in it undecorated {gasp!} during naps for a few weeks before she officially moved in. Just last week I got my act together and unearthed Leah's old sheets and made her some bumpers {so her chubby legs wouldn't get stuck in the rails anymore} and I love the outcome! I used this tutorial and it was so super easy. My mom would be proud as she made Leah's bumpers 5.5 years ago. I've come a long way. She and Leah sleep together at nights and so far, so good. Kate wakes up altogether too early, but that's neither here nor there.

At 5 months and 2 days, Kate officially started eating solid foods. She's been staring at us during dinner time for the last month and screams her head off unless she's at the table. So, after much procrastination, we purchased a hook-to-the-table high chair {that is the official name} and plopped her in. She was uncertain at first, but now loves solids so much that if I so much as take one bite of my own food while I'm feeding her, she loses it. Mouth wide open screams, tears streaming down her face loses it. She's kind of a diva. We just go on our merry way. She'll learn soon enough, right? So far she's tried oatmeal and green beans. Both were a success!

Currently her eating habits are 5 meals a day {usually 6:30a, 10:30a, 2:00p, 6:00p solid and 7:30p}. Her naps are hit and miss. Usually one good nap each day in the morning or the afternoon and one or two short naps as well. She can't really make up her mind.

Her hair is filling in and growing out and thankfully her bald spot is less and less noticeable every day. On the other hand, I'm losing hair at a ridiculous rate and will most likely be bald by Thanksgiving.

Katers was less than thrilled to have a 5 month photo shoot. We did our best. We even brought out the big guns with binkies, dads and thumbs, but nothing worked...

...except her bed.

We can't believe it's already been five months with this spunky sweetheart in our house. She brings a lot of emotion and drama packaged up in her tiny little body, but when I hear her alto giggles or see her squatty smile, everything is right with the world.

5 month Stats:
Weight: ???
Length: ???
Head: ???
No. of diapers used: 112, give or take
Diaper size: 2
Clothing size: 3-6 months, some 6-12
Longest stretch of sleep: somewhere around 11 hours {7:30pm-6:30am}

I'm losing hair too! Is that a normal post pregnancy thing?

i'm loving the belly pictures. man she's cute! and tell bethany that yes, losing hair is a very normal post prego thing.. mine is still coming out, 9 mos later... it's cause you grow so much hair {more and thicker} when pregnant and then after, it just falls out back to "normal"
