ktg: 1 year

What. A. Year.

A year of fun and firsts. A year of smiles and surprises. A year of cuddles and cries. A year of Kate!!

The first few months of Kate's life truly crawled by. She was not happy, it was seriously hot and Ryan was very much on the other side of the world. But slowly and surely things got better. She, so far, is hitting milestones at such normal times it's boring - and we couldn't be happier about it. We love boring.

This past month she learned how to clap her hands, started to try and eat her meals with a fork {and rub them all over the table and onto the floor}, put her toys in things, read more books, push more buttons and...drumroll, please...stand on her own!

She has taken one step twice and then falls down. I don't expect her to be walking in the next week or two, but it's definitely on the horizon.

She's down to one bottle every morning, and all regular food other than that. She still sleeps from 7:30 until whenever Leah wakes up, which is usually too early. She takes two naps a day - a long one in the morning and a shorter one in the afternoon.

Kate graduated to the big girl car seat just as soon as Big D was dropped off at the airport. I figured it was already in the car, so why not! She loves it.

She still loves words that end in "ck" but still babbles all day long and tries out new sounds daily. She is our resident squinter - I have a feeling she is going to be the child that purposely messes up family pictures.

She waves hello to anyone and anything around her - people, trees, cars, animals, you name it. She loves to splash in the bath and she is figuring out how to brush her own hair. Speaking of hair, the mullet is getting pretty amazing and 90% of the time she refuses to keep her bows in, so she looks like a pretty little boy with alfalfa hair.

The relationship she has with Leah is already beautiful to watch. When they aren't accidentally hitting or sitting on each other, they are making each other laugh and giving kisses. I feel like they speak a silent language that only they understand and I love sitting back and watching.

It has been one of the most wonderful years our little family has ever had. Kate nestled right into our family, filled a hole we didn't even know we had and patched a few others that needed mending. She is spunky and sassy and silly and sweet and we could not love her more.

Happy Birthday Katers!

I couldn't read this because I cried from looking at the pictures first, that one of her standing, boom, wow, she is AMAZING. Man I miss you and your family. I am going to have to come back and read once I pull, myself together.
